Green TD Steven Matthews has welcomed the launch of the National Road EV Charging Network Plan and Universal Design Guidelines which will support the delivery of EV charging points in Wicklow.
Following the announcement from his colleague Minister Eamon Ryan, Deputy Matthews said:
“I am delighted to see this plan being published which will result in an increase in the number of public EV charging points in Wicklow. The plan aims to expand access to EV charging infrastructure and commits to having an EV charging point stationed every 60km on motorways as well as plans to increase the availability of home and apartment charging, destination charging and residential neighbourhood charging. This is incredibly important for reducing our carbon emissions and accelerating the transition to EVs in Co. Wicklow and across the country.
“As a Green TD, I have consistently advocated for more public EV charging points to be provided in our towns and villages. I have recently worked with residents to secure access to EV charging points in a number of apartment blocks across Wicklow. Overall, this plan will provide for a network of high-powered and conveniently located EV charging points that will fast-track our transition to sustainable modes of transport.
“The major investment in EV charging infrastructure provided for in the National Road Plan would not have been possible without the Green Party’s leadership in Government. Throughout our time in Government, we have introduced a number of grants to support the installation of EV charging infrastructure including the Shared Island Sports Club EV Charging Scheme and the EU Just Transition Fund (JTF) Community Facilities EV Charging Scheme.,” Deputy Matthews concluded.
