Green TD Steven Matthews has welcomed the confirmation from the NTA that Bus Éireann Route 2 (Wexford - Dublin Airport) will shortly commence an amended route that will stop at St. Vincent’s University Hospital on every journey. This follows extensive engagement between Deputy Matthews and local community groups including Arklow Active Retirement. This new timetable will service St. Vincent’s Hospital on all Route 2 trips, 15 services each way Monday – Saturday and 12 each way on Sundays and Public Holidays.
Discussing the change in route, Deputy Matthews said:
“I first discussed this proposal with Anne O’Connell and other members of Arklow Active Retirement a couple of years ago when they raised the very real and practical issue of attending medical appointments in St. Vincent’s which wasn’t possible without relying on expensive taxis or lifts from friends or family.
“Regular passengers on this route will know that the current timetable allows for three stops daily in each direction for the hospital but for many people with appointments that don’t suit those times, it means that public transport isn’t an option.
“Once this new timetable is finalised, accessing St. Vincent’s Hospital becomes a much more viable option for Arklow residents and I will continue to work with Bus Éireann to avoid any further delays before it goes live.
“Many people would be surprised about the complexities of changing a bus route as it requires sign off from the bus company, the NTA and the various local authorities that the bus passes through. It’s hugely welcome that the final sign off has now been provided by the NTA and Dublin City Council which means that this can proceed very soon, concluded Deputy Matthews.
