Green TD Steven Matthews is encouraging local groups to apply for funding to develop projects supporting the integration of migrants and refugees in communities across Wicklow. The Communities Integration Fund 2023 will provide grants of up to €5,000 to organisations that are supporting people who are newly arrived in Ireland. The scheme will be open for applications until 15 March.
Welcoming the Communities Integration Fund 2023, Deputy Matthews said:
“I am delighted that the Communities Integration Fund has opened for applications. This is a valuable initiative that supports local organisations to welcome migrants and refugees. A variety of groups including sports clubs, faith-based groups, arts groups, cultural organisations and schools are eligible to apply. The themes for projects this year include intercultural awareness, combating racism and xenophobia, sport and community games, arts, food/cuisine, community events, capacity building, employment, school-aged projects and initiatives supporting migrant women.
“I would encourage all eligible organisations to consider applying for this funding. Over the last year, I have been inspired by the work of local communities across Co. Wicklow in assisting refugees from Ukraine and other countries impacted by conflict. This scheme aims to support local organisations to continue this work and develop projects to promote inclusivity, diversity and culture.
“If any club would like more information about this scheme or requires any assistance with the application process, I would invite them to get in contact with me directly,” Deputy Mathews concluded.
