Deputy Steven Matthews, Green Party TD for Wicklow, has welcomed the appointment of two additional new ground staff in Greystones Municipal District to assist the work of voluntary groups including Greystones Tidy Towns. Welcoming the announcement from Wicklow County Council, Deputy Matthews said:
“I am delighted that Greystones MD now has two additional ground staff to support the work of Greystones Tidy Towns. I have been pushing for this for months following a meeting with Greystones Tidy Towns where they raised their concerns regarding a lack of support from Wicklow County Council.
“I have been an active member of Tidy Towns for many years, the success of these groups is visible throughout our towns and villages. Greystones Tidy Towns has made a positive contribution to life in Greystones which has rightly been recognised with a series of awards in recent years. They do incredible work throughout the community, as do all the other Tidy Towns across Wicklow.
“I have repeatedly called for a review of ground staffing levels in all Wicklow municipal districts and met with the Director of Services in Wicklow County Council to advocate further supports for Tidy Towns. We must continue to ensure that there are sufficient numbers of ground staff hired by the Council to assist the crucial work of Tidy Towns and other voluntary groups.
“This is fantastic news for Greystones Tidy Towns, and I look forward to engaging with them to discuss their projects and plans for the future. If there are any local groups with similar concerns regarding ground staffing levels, I would encourage them to get in touch and I would be happy to offer any support that I can”, Deputy Matthews concluded.
